Nicholas-Petit-Frere extremely confident in his abilities to win Titans starting right tackle job

NASHVILLE -- Offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere returned to Tennessee Titans practice on Saturday for the first time since Week 8 of last year. A shoulder injury ended his season and a knee scope robbed him of the Spring's offseason program.

Needless to say, Petit-Frere is excited to be back.

"I literally haven't put on pads or a helmet since October," said Petit-Frere. "I'm just blessed to get another chance to be out here with the guys. It has been tough just seeing everybody working. I've been around the whole time."

Given the open competition that Tennessee has at both right tackle and right guard, it is understandable that Petit-Frere would have some FOMO.

Second-year lineman John Ojukwu has seen the bulk of reps at tackle in Petit-Frere's absence. Titans line coach Bill Callahan has also rotated veteran Leroy Watson now that padded practices have begun. Petit-Frere possess the most talent of the group, by far.

Getting up to speed with this new-look offensive unit is Tennessee is now the top priority.

Petit-Frere Exuding Confidence

There is no doubt in Petit-Frere's mind that he can be the Titans starting right tackle.

As a rookie in 2022, the Ohio State product started 16 of a possible 17 games for Tennessee and played 937 snaps at right tackle. A six-game gambling suspension (later reduced to four) in his sophomore season cost Petit-Frere dearly. Returning in Week 6 for his team's London loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Petit-Frere was forced into action on the left side for the then-benched Andre Dillard.

Petit-Frere started the next two games for the Titans, before the shoulder injury ended his 2023. In those two starts, he allowed three sacks, five quarterback hits and three more hurries, according to Pro Football Focus.

"I've done it twice," Petit-Frere said on earning his spot back. "Why not a third time?"

That is precisely the mentality that Tennessee needs to see.
