There was some bad news regarding DeAndre Hopkins last week, as the former Clemson star and current Tennessee Titans wide receiver sustained a knee injury during a recent practice, with initial reports indicating he’d miss four to six weeks.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan gave an injury update on Hopkins when meeting with the media Saturday, and the good news is that Hopkins won’t need surgery on his injured knee, according to Callahan.

Although Callahan said Hopkins will still be out for “several weeks,” ESPN reported that the Titans are hopeful Hopkins will be able to return before the team’s Sept. 8 season opener against the Chicago Bears.

If Hopkins can get back in four weeks, he would have a week of practice to get ready for the opener in Chicago.

A five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, Hopkins signed a two-year deal with the Titans last offseason and concluded his first campaign in Tennessee with the seventh 1,000-plus-yard season of his career (75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns).

Hopkins, 32, has amassed 928 catches for 12,355 yards and 78 touchdowns in his 11-year pro career with the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Titans since being selected by the Texans in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
