Chicago, IL — A 49-year-old woman was fatally shot Friday night while sitting on a porch in the West Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side. The incident occurred around 9:33 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue.

The woman was on the porch with a 38-year-old man who possessed a Concealed-Carry License (CCL) when someone in a dark-colored SUV drove by and opened fire. The CCL holder returned fire as the vehicle sped away, authorities reported.

The woman sustained gunshot wounds to her face and arm. Emergency responders transported her to Roseland Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified her as Katrina J. Brown.

The CCL holder was unharmed. Chicago police stated that a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Street Pastor Donovan Price, who arrived at the scene, expressed concern about potential violence over the upcoming holiday. "Hopefully this won’t be the start of a violent Labor Day weekend," Price remarked. "People are out trying to enjoy themselves, and unfortunately, gunshots erupted, and a young lady is dead."

Area Two detectives are investigating the shooting.
