Adams County Sheriff’s deputies, with the help of some concerned citizens, captured a wanted fugitive Thursday morning.

Sheriff Travis Patten of Adams County reported that around 7:30 a.m., his office received a call from the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations (LBI) seeking assistance in locating a wanted individual believed to be in the Natchez area. The fugitive in question was Chad Dewayne Bouchaund Jr., 25, from Baton Rouge. Bouchaund was suspected of six counts of child pornography involving minors under the age of 13 and one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor, all felonies.

Adams County deputies tracked down Bouchaund in the Dollar General parking lot at 786 U.S. 61 North in Washington. They detained and handcuffed him, but during a pat-down, they discovered what felt like a gun in his jacket pocket. Bouchaund became resistant, broke free, and ran across the parking lot of the neighboring Tractor Supply, with deputies in pursuit.

At this critical moment, Good Samaritans stepped in. One citizen used his truck to block Bouchaund’s path, while another tackled him, causing his shoes to come off in the process. This brave intervention allowed the deputies to recapture Bouchaund and retrieve a P 365 9MM Sig Sauer from his jacket pocket.

Sheriff Patten noted that a check of the gun through the National Crime Information Center database revealed it had been reported stolen from Lewisville, Texas. Additionally, Bouchaund was identified as a convicted felon. He was transported to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and booked on charges of attempting to escape, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm. A hold was also placed on him for the Louisiana Bureau of Investigations.
