NATCHEZ — The short film that won Natchez Film Company the third-place award in the 48 Hour Film Project: New Orleans competition “Postal Parasites” has a local premiere scheduled for Aug. 9 at the Natchez Civic Center, the production company announced.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and festivities will include a presentation from the Mississippi Film Office and the Mississippi Music Foundation with a special guest.

There will also be live music from Twurt Chamberlain.

“In addition to showing our short, we are awaiting final confirmation about screening 2-3 other award-winning 48HFP films out of New Orleans as well,” said Davis Sharp of Natchez Film CO. “We are also pleased to have 48 Hour Film Project: New Orleans city producer Bill Rainey as our host, and he will be leading a filmmaker Q&A with the crowd following the screenings.”

Tickets to the event are $15 each as a fundraiser for the Mississippi Music Foundation and to cover overhead for the event, Sharp said.

Food and cocktails will be available to purchase provided by The Little Easy and Southwest Distributors.

A cinema projector and sound system have been provided courtesy of Premier Sound Services, he said.

“We will also be selling film posters and screening trailers for ‘Mississippi Muni: The Story of the Natchez Golf Club,’ ‘Arlington,’ and ‘The Underground Pizza Documentary,’” Sharp said.

Natchez Film Company’s short film “Postal Parasites” placed third overall out of the 29 teams who registered in the 48 Hour Film Project, a global event that happens in more than 100 cities on different weekends throughout the year.

As the name suggests, the competing teams create a short film over one weekend to be judged by local judges of the city in which they are entered.

While the topmost prize of “Best Film” went to the production “Full Package” by The Stilettos, the Natchez Film Company team came close and brought home eight first-place awards in various categories, including Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Set Design, Best Make-Up, Best Writing, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Use of Character and Best Musical Score.

More than a dozen awards are given in the competition.

The cast of Postal Parasites includes leads Britton Webb, Brittany Chandler and supporting actor Cotton Yancey as the mailman.
