The LA40by2030 Tour Starts in Natchitoches
Natchitoches was fortunate to host the first stop of the Louisiana Center for Health Equity’s (LCHE) LA40by2030 tour of Louisiana, Tuesday, July 2. LA40by2030 is an initiative of the LCHE to improve our state’s woefully low ranking of last to almost last in a number of critical public health measures such as low birth weight, infant deaths, obesity and a number of other factors from 50th to 40th among the 50 states. That seemingly modest goal would produce an enormous improvement in the lives of thousands of our fellow Louisianans and would provide momentum for even greater gains.
The Citizens of Boy’s and Girl’s State Come to NSU
It was a busy and productive summer indeed for the young men and women of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary’s Boy’s and Girl’s State programs held at NSU. Girl’s State brought 250 young ladies from high schools in every corner of the state for a week of fun and learning June 16-22. Boy’s State drew 185 young men from throughout Louisiana June 23-29 for a chance to learn and grow.

At a time when artists such as Cardi B, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish are household names, a trio of ladies, reminiscent of The Andrews Sisters, are capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide, especially those with military ties. The Victory Belles are stationed in the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana, and call BB’s Stage Door Canteen their home. On July 20, 2024, they will be making their way to an assignment in Natchitoches, LA as part of the entertainment lineup planned for the 44th annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival.
