Could Bradley Beal To Spurs Be Suns’ Next Big Trade?

The Phoenix Suns find themselves in a peculiar position. Since taking over, new owner Mat Ishbia has been making aggressive moves both on the roster and coaching staff. Despite this, the first full season under his leadership didn’t go as planned. Even with three NBA superstars in Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the team only managed to secure the 6th seed.

Their struggles continued in the playoffs, where they were swept in the First Round. Heading into the next season, the team remains relatively unchanged, except for the underrated acquisition of Tyus Jones. During the offseason, Ishbia emphasized that the Suns would give their core another shot.

However, if the season doesn’t start off well, changes might be necessary. The popular speculation would be a trade involving Durant, but what if the Suns could keep the KD-Booker pairing intact and instead trade away their newest star?

Why Bradley Beal Could Make Sense for the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are in a prime position to take risks next season. As Victor Wembanyama continues to develop, the Spurs can take their time building the team around him. His growth is central to their future, and they are fully committed to ensuring his success. To aid in his development, they brought in veteran and former MVP candidate Chris Paul.

While Paul can still run an offense with precision, his leadership and veteran instincts could elevate Wembanyama’s game. Moreover, his experience could also be pivotal in developing this year’s lottery pick, Stephon Castle. But why stop there?

Adding Bradley Beal to the mix could double the Spurs’ efforts to support Wembanyama. Just two seasons ago, Beal was averaging 30 points per game for the second consecutive year. His presence on the roster could create ample space and opportunity for the French phenom to thrive. Additionally, Beal’s experience could be invaluable for the younger players, like Castle and the reigning Rookie of the Year, helping them polish their offensive skills.

By the time San Antonio is ready to compete at a high level, Beal would likely be nearing the end of his prime, allowing the Spurs to free up a max contract slot. To make the deal more appealing, Phoenix could attach a few second-round picks, further bolstering San Antonio’s draft assets.

Why Would the Suns Be Interested?

Aside from Wembanyama and Castle, few players on the Spurs are untouchable, which presents an opportunity for the Suns. Phoenix has plenty of scoring power between Durant and Booker but lacks the glue guys needed for a well-rounded roster. This is where a trade with San Antonio could be beneficial.

The recently acquired Harrison Barnes would be an attractive piece for the Suns. Additionally, Keldon Johnson could be a valuable acquisition. Last season, Johnson’s role with the Spurs diminished, with only 27 starts compared to 63 the previous year.

His reduced touches, shooting attempts, and minutes lowered his stock within the team, but he remains a strong shooter with defensive potential—two qualities that the Suns desperately need. To make the salaries match, San Antonio might include Julian Champagnie in the trade.
