COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A man accused of fatally shooting a teenager after a road-rage incident was in court Thursday.

Skyler Burley, 30, is facing one count of murder for allegedly shooting 17-year-old Gage Anderson in the parking lot of a United Dairy Farmers in southwest Columbus Tuesday night.

Anderson was found unresponsive at the UDF’s Clime Road location at 8:11 p.m. and was taken to an area hospital. He was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.

Witnesses described to police a vehicle that had left the scene and a CPD helicopter quickly located the vehicle in question. Officers stopped Burley at the intersection of Lynward Road and Maurine Drive, where he was taken into custody.

Police said the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a road-rage incident after the victim’s father said Burley got out of his black Kia and shot his son.

Court documents stated that Burley told police he and Anderson were exchanging words over a road-rage incident and that Anderson lunged at him. Burley is claiming to have shot Anderson in self-defense.

Thursday morning in court, a Franklin County Municipal judge issued Burley a $1.5 million bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 23.
