That’s the case for one small-town ice cream in Iowa, hiding in the laid-back locale of Monroe. Now, I’m New Jersey born and raised, so imagine my surprise when I found out that this fan-favorite frosty spot, which has been open since 1992, is named… Jersey Freeze! The name comes from an original 1950 business that was run by a family that raised Jersey cattle, and it stuck. One thing that’s also stuck? The large crowds lined up for delicious, old-school frozen treats from March to October every year.
West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.
