Four speakers will provide engaging and thought-provoking information for rural women of all ages when the General Federal of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Nevis Area Women’s Club hosts a fall conference.

The second conference, Empowering Women/Resilience, a hopeful response to life’s challenges, will be held at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker Sept. 13.

Back by popular demand this year is Mariah Prussia, the founder of Define the Fight, who is a motivational speaker, self-defense instructor and personal trainer who will share ways to work through life’s challenges.

Dr. Emily Sargent, Ph.D. is an enrolled Bear Clan tribal member of the White Earth Band of Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Dr. Sargent is a clinical psychologist at Sanford Health and a clinical investigator at Sanford Center for Biobehavioral Research in Fargo, ND. She specializes in trauma informed treatment and care for Native Americans in tribal, rural and urban areas.

Funny motivational speaker Amy Dee, who uses her hilarious “we’ve all been there” stories to help audiences connect, laugh and become open to the science of how we behave and the power we have to make choices about how we treat each other and ourselves.

The Club is proud to present the keynote speaker Maggie Nichols. Nichols was a USA Gymnastics team member who became the first person to report the disgraced former gymnastics doctor for the American Gymnastics team for decades of sexual abuse of team members. Nichols became known as “Athlete A” in the lawsuit and a documentary about her story in 2020 featured on Netflix.

The Empowering Women/Resilience Conference will be held at Northern Lights Casino in Walker on September 13, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. Ticket price is $55 and includes healthy snacks and lunch.
