Why Is Harriet Island In St. Paul Called That?
Thousands of people flooded Harriet Island this past weekend to attend Minnesota's first Yacht Club Festival. Harriet Island wasn't always called that. It was known as Waken Island initially before the name was changed to Harriet Island after Harriet Bishop.
Lowertown Sounds brings free music to St. Paul
ST PAUL, Minn. — Lowertown Sounds is bringing free concerts, food trucks and local beer and wines to St. Paul's Mears Park this summer. Event coordinator Clint Roberts and musicians Autumn Vagle and Kate Malanaphy visited KARE 11 News at Noon on Tuesday to share more about the event.

At the end of the Obon festival, lanterns are released onto the water so that the spirits can return to the other world.

An obscure park anniversary took place in St. Paul last weekend when Mizz Mercedez and her crew set up shop in Central Village Park. Bringing out speakers and 12-foot-long ropes, they began what’s become an almost sacred rite for the sidewalks of St. Paul’s Black community: double dutch.
