Rutgers basketball guard Tyson Acuff out with a broken foot

Another injury has hit the Rutgers basketball backcourt.

Postgrad guard Tyson Acuff suffered a broken foot in practice and will miss three months, the team announced Friday. Assuming his recovery goes as planned, the 6-foot-4 transfer from Eastern Michigan, who averaged 21.7 points per game last season, should be back in action for the 2024-25 season opener in early November.

"Graduate student guard Tyson Acuff fractured his right foot in practice earlier this week," the team announced. "He is expected to miss 3 months of basketball activities and we anticipate his return for the start of the 2024-25 season."

Acuff joins star freshman Dylan Harper (knee procedure, out 4-6 weeks) on the sideline as the Scarlet Knights lay the groundwork this summer. Coming from Eastern Michigan, where he ranked among the nation’s top scores and hit 81 percent of his free throws, Acuff is projected to be a key rotation piece and challenge for a spot in the starting lineup.

At the moment Rutgers’ backcourt is down to three healthy scholarship guards in returnees Jeremiah Williams and Jamichael Davis and Merrimack transfer/Woodbridge native Jordan Derkack, with 6-foot-6 wing PJ Hayes capable of filling in at shooting guard as well.
