Elizabeth Scott Community: 75 Years And Going Strong
In a world of corporate buyouts, especially in the field of long-term care, it’s rare to find a business that remains family-owned and operated. Yet, 75 years after being founded by Elizabeth Scott, a licensed practical nurse, the Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee remains a vibrant, family-owned facility. “We’re...
Area’s First Pet Urgent Care To Open On Conant Street
BY KAREN GERHARDINGER | MIRROR REPORTER — Just like humans, the family cat or dog sometimes needs an urgent care – when an illness or injury is serious enough that waiting for a veterinary appointment is too long, but not severe enough to prompt a trip to the emergency room.

BLUE ASH, Ohio — As storms rolled through Cincinnati Thursday, you'd think that would stop people from celebrating their Fourth of July outside. New Music Under the Stars season truly rings in summer
The number of Toledo’s outdoor musical venues have increased: the Metroparks, gazebos in city parks, outside of libraries, you name it. But before all these concert venues were even imagined, the biggest venue — outdoor, that is — was the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre. And for decades, it’s been the setting for listening to music and seeing plays — under the stars — surrounded by the creatures that make music of their own. The series that began with the venue’s inauguration in July, 1936, begins on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with the 122nd Army Band taking listeners back to the 1980s. The concerts last through Aug. 11. The great amphitheater, along with other structures that make up the city, was built thanks to the largesse of the Works Progress Administration.

Bengals roll with new QB in NFL re-draft exercise
The Cincinnati Bengals don’t usually fare well in the offseason exercise known as “re-draft” mock drafts. Generally, re-drafts that are a fun way to shake up the league and fill some dull offseason space have the Bengals picking later in the first round — meaning another team swipes Joe Burrow very early.
Great Lakes singer-songwriter Pat Dailey dies at 83
Pat Dailey, a celebrated Great Lakes singer-songwriter, died at home Wednesday. He was 83. He died “peacefully” overnight, his son Reese Dailey wrote Thursday in a Facebook post. The cause of death was not reported. With his entertaining mix of romantic ballads, bawdy tunes, and party songs, Mr. Dailey has been a fixture at the party island of Put-in-Bay since 1978, packing the crowds at the mammoth Beer Barrel until moving to the more intimate Boathouse Bar in 2007. Since 1984, Mr. Dailey was a regular in winter at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West.

In the presence of Eva Marie Saint: Recalling encounters with the Oscar-winner on her 100th birthday
Eva Marie Saint scolded me the first time we met. A few members of the press and the Oscar-winning actress had gathered around a coffee table in the Women’s Center in Hanna Hall. I placed my tape recorder in the middle of the table. This was an interview I wanted to capture in full.
More legal wrangling over Lake Erie
Over the last 10 years, it seems almost as certain as the likelihood of a green hue in parts of Lake Erie in late summer. If Jamie Farr loves Tony Packo’s, there is a pretty solid chance the good folks of Toledo are trying to sue someone regarding water quality in Lake Erie and are directing their emerald-water ire at Ohio agriculture.
Northwest Ohio woman competing in Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
NEW YORK — Organized gluttony has become an American tradition held in the same regard as other Independence Day activities such as fireworks and the colors red, white and blue. Northwest Ohio will be well-represented in the former when, on Thursday, Edon native Cherish Brown will be one of...

Alexis Diaz got the save on Wednesday night, his 19th of the season, with the Cincinnati Reds beating the New York Yankees 3-2. But the closer’s reaction to a pitch called inside got him mocked by the umpire, who didn’t toss him out for questioning balls and strikes.
