    7 people, dog safe after raft flips in Colorado River

    DENVER (KDVR) — Seven people and a dog were safe after a raft flipped over in the Colorado River near New Castle Sunday, according to the Colorado River Fire Protection District.

    Everyone rescued themselves and did not require outside intervention.

    Officials urge water safety ahead of July 4 after 20 water deaths so far this year

    Three kids were separated from the group but made it out on their own. The four adults went downstream and made it out safely as well.

    Everyone was wearing a life jacket, according to CRFPD.

    20 water deaths so far in 2024

    According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, there have been 20 water deaths in the state in the first half of the year.

    There were 32 water deaths in total in 2023.

    CPW urges people to wear proper safety gear while doing water recreation activities . This includes things like properly fitted life vests.

    People should also be aware of their surroundings and know their limitations before heading off, according to CPW.
