New Columbia, Pa. — A New Columbia man was charged for fraudulently getting a riding mower from a store in south central Pa. and trying to resell it in Union County.

Trp. Bradley Derk of state police at Milton says they received a call on June 26 from a woman who found a green John Deere S140 lawn mower in her shed on Newky Road that she did not purchase.

Upon investigation, police found that the mower had been fraudulently purchased at a Lowe's store in Waynesboro, then moved to the Union County home where 72-year-old Robert Doane had planned to resell it. Police do not say what relationship Doane had to the homeowner.

Doane was arraigned on a felony receiving stolen property charge by on-call District Judge Bo Trawitz who set bail at $5,000 unsecured. A preliminary hearing at District Judge Jeffrey Mensch's office is set for Aug. 13.
