    Worcester Opens Cooling Centers to Help Residents Beat the Heat

    WORCESTER, Mass. – In response to the scorching temperatures forecasted for this week, the City of Worcester has announced the opening of several cooling centers on Thursday and Friday to provide relief from the heat. The centers will be operational at various locations across the city, equipped with ample water supplies to ensure hydration for all visitors.

    Cooling Center Locations and Hours:

    Thursday, August 1:

    • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch): 3 Salem Square, from 12 noon to 5:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Public Library (Frances Perkins Branch): 470 West Boylston St., from 12 noon to 8:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Senior Center: 128 Providence St., from 12 noon to 4:30 p.m.
    • Worcester 311 Customer Service Center: 799 Main St., from 12 noon to 7:00 p.m.

    Friday, August 2:

    • Worcester Public Library (Main Branch): 3 Salem Square, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Public Library (Frances Perkins Branch): 470 West Boylston St., from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
    • Worcester Senior Center: 128 Providence St., from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Worcester 311 Customer Service Center: 799 Main St., from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    Residents requiring transportation to any of these centers can contact the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) at 508-791-9782 for details on bus routes, ADA transportation, and travel training.

    The city urges residents to take precautions during the heat wave by limiting outdoor activities, staying hydrated, and checking on elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning. "Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can severely impact one's health, making these cooling centers a vital resource," stated city health officials.
