DOVER, NH – The Dover Police Department is alerting residents to be cautious of sick wild animals following several recent incidents in the city. Over the past three weeks, authorities have euthanized five wild animals, including skunks, raccoons, and foxes, in the vicinity of Forest Street and Portland Avenue.

These animals displayed behavior suggestive of illness, prompting concerns about public safety. Although no human contact was reported, and the animals were not tested for rabies, their symptoms have raised alarms about possible diseases such as rabies or distemper.

The police advise residents to avoid contact with wild animals and to monitor their pets and children, especially in areas known for wildlife activity. Anyone who encounters a sick or injured animal should not approach or attempt to assist it. Instead, they are urged to contact the Dover Police Department immediately at 603-742-4646 for professional assistance.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and report any sightings of distressed wildlife to ensure community safety and prevent potential disease transmission.
