The Akron Zoo Will Construct a New Hospital
The Akron Zoo was recently selected to receive $2 million from State of Ohio House Bill 2 for a new animal hospital, which will help the zoo continue to provide top-notch veterinary care for the more than 2,000 animals. The hospital is a $11.95 million project, and construction is slated to begin in 2025 with a 2026 opening. The new hospital will be located behind the Landon & Cynthia Knight Pride of Africa area along Diagonal Road. The 11,949-square-foot building will include a state-of-the-art surgery suite, intensive care unit and specialized spaces for the different species, including birds, hoofstock, primates and large carnivores. The National Center For Choreography-Akron Receives $90,000 From The National Endowment For The Arts
The National Center for Choregraphy-Akron has announced that it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for two Grants for Arts Projects awards totaling $90,000. These grants will support NCCAkron's Dancing Lab: Immersive Spaces & Alternate Places ($30,000) as well as upcoming programming including Dancing Lab: Cypher; Dancing Lab: Intergenerational Partners; and a Creative Administration Research Learning Journey in Nashville, TN ($60,000). These awards are among 1,135 Grants for Arts Projects totaling more than $37 million as part of the NEA's second round of fiscal year 2024 grants.
