The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) has nominated several individuals to serve on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Federal and State Current Issues Collaborative.

The Collaborative was created to provide a venue for federal and state regulators to share perspectives, improve understanding and identify potential solutions on matters that affect specific state
    and federal regulatory jurisdictions.

Potential topics include exploring where best to coordinate between state and federal regulators on issues ranging from electric reliability and resource adequacy to natural gas-electric coordination, wholesale and retail markets, new technologies and innovations, and infrastructure.

NARUC nominated 10 individuals for the Collaborative. The nominees, from each of the five NARUC regions, include:

Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners
    • Vice Chair Kimberly M. Barrow, Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
    • Commissioner Dennis P. Deters, Ohio Public Utilities Commission
    Mid-America Regulatory Conference
    • Chairman Jim Huston, Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission
    • Commissioner Katherine Peretick, Michigan Public Service Commission
New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners
    • Chairman Philip L. Bartlett, II, Maine Public Service Commission
    • Commissioner Pradip Chattopadhyay, New Hampshire Public Utilities
    • Commission
Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners
    • Commissioner Kimberly W. Duffley, North Carolina Utilities
    • Commissioner Art Graham, Florida Public Service Commission
Western Conference of Public Service Commissioners
    • Commissioner Eric Anderson, Idaho Public Utilities Commission
    • Chair Patrick O’Connell, New Mexico Public Regulation Commission

“This Collaborative is an important and necessary step in continuing constructive dialogues between federal and state regulators,” NARUC President Julie Fedorchak said. “Challenging issues such as resource adequacy, natural gas-electric coordination and infrastructure are among the matters facing state commissions.”

The next step in the process is for FERC to accept and officially appoint the state commissioner participants from NARUC’s list of nominees. Appointed participants will serve one-year terms that can be renewed for a total of three years. The first meeting of the collaborative will be in the fall.
