District Attorney Hoovler Announces Guilty Plea in Wawayanda Home Invasion Case
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, August 12, 2024, Owen Horace, 33, of Monticello, pled guilty in Orange County Court to Burglary in the First Degree. Under the plea agreement announced on the record at the time that Horace pled guilty, the People will recommend that he be sentenced to twelve (12) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on October 17, 2024.

Campground expansion inches along after slight changes
The Warwick Town Planning Board continued its review of the proposed Serenity Ridge expansion of the campsite facility located on Wheeler Road and addressed public concern, at its August 21 meeting. Planning Board Chairman Ben Astorino explained that the existing campground was already permitted for 74 campsites, and that any recreational vehicle, including the park models proposed by the applicant, is allowed on those sites and can stay overnight. He emphasized that the applicant is before the board to request approval to expand the facility to 130 campsites.

Neuhaus has announced that he will host the fourth installment of his Leadership Speaker Series on Wednesday, September 4th, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the County’s Emergency Services Center, located at 22 Wells Farm Road in Goshen. He will have a one-on-one conversation with retired FDNY Deputy Chief Jay Jonas of Goshen, who will share his harrowing story of rescue and survival during the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001. Commissioner of Planning Alan Sorensen Presents Details of New Schunnemunk Trail System & Park
The Village of Washingtonville was offered quite a treat on (Mon. 8/19) in the form of about an hour's presentation detailing how and where the County Trail System and Camp LaGuardia conversion to a new County Park are becoming a multi-year project . Planner and Commissionr Alan Sorensen, AICP is a long-standing and highly respected green planner, not only with singularly impressive credentials, but also a list of lauded green projects throughout the Mid-Hudson Region. In fact, he developed a company called "Planet Green" that revitalized numerous villages and town centers in the Hudson Valley. In 2015 he guided the Chester Comprehensive Plan Committee through a lengthy process of updates. Now one of his top projects is the work beginning on the Schunnemunk and Heritage Trails, and the former Camp LaGuardia transition into a County Park. Sorensen has worked hard with County Executive Steve Neuhaus, Blooming Grove Supervisor Rob Jeroloman, Village of Washingtonville Mayor Tom Devinko along with both municipalities' councilmembers and trustees to move the dream of this project forward to a point that it is finally becoming a reality. Sorensen said they have demolished unused and rundown buildings at the LaGuardia site/future Park to be (as yet unnamed) and even have the beginning drawings for the future athletic fields near the front of the property.
