NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven residents will see more law enforcement officers on the streets after gunshots rang throughout the city Saturday night into Sunday morning, injuring seven people.

The first shooting took place on Saturday at 9:11 p.m. when New Haven patrol officers were called to Yale New Haven Hospital for a gunshot victim who arrived in a private vehicle.

Authorities say the victim is an 18-year-old resident of the city who was shot several times and endured non-life-threatening injuries. A crime scene was secured after police investigation revealed the shooting happened in the area of State and Ferry Streets.

Less than three hours later at 11:40 p.m., a shotspotter notification paired with multiple calls to 911, alerted officers to the area of Ivy St. and Shelton Ave. Callers reported multiple people were shot.

The crime scene was found at a nearby parking lot on Hazel St. and according to investigation, four people were shot. Two women, a 26-year-old New Haven resident, and a 24-year-old Hamden resident, were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two other victims are a 31-year-old Hamden resident and a 30-year-old New Haven resident; both males. They arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle. Police say their injuries are non-life threatening as well.

The third shooting occurred at 6:22 a.m. on Sunday in the vicinity of Level and Lodge Streets. Officials say two people were shot, a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman.

Both victims arrived separately at Yale New Haven Hospital by private vehicles. The man has non-life-threatening injuries, and the woman is “considered stable but critical,” says New Haven police.

In response to these shootings, New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson says, “We will be putting more officers and Detectives on the streets to ensure the city is safe.”

There has been no information on arrests.

At this time officials are unsure if all three shootings are connected. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or leave an anonymous tip at 866-888-8477.
