3 Weekend Shootings, 7 Victims

Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, there were three separate, non-fatal shootings in New Haven that injured seven victims, leaving one in stable but critical condition.

This is according to a Sunday New Haven Police Department press release on X. Police are still investigating. They aren’t sure if the shootings are connected.

At 9:11 p.m. on Saturday, city police were dispatched to Yale New Haven Hospital after receiving word of a walk-in gunshot victim. The 18-year-old New Haven resident had been shot multiple times, and an investigation found that he was shot in the area of State Street and Ferry Street. His injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

Then, at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to the area of Ivy Street and Shelton Avenue due to a ShotSpotter alert and multiple 911 calls reporting that people had been shot. Police located two female gunshot victims who were then transported to Yale New Haven Hospital: a 26-year-old Hamden resident and a 24-year-old New Haven resident. Separately, two male victims involved were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by private vehicles. All injuries were deemed non-life threatening.

Sunday morning, at 6:22 a.m., city police responded to the area of Level Street and Lodge Street after reports of gunshots. A 20-year-old male victim arrived at St. Raphael’s campus of Yale New Haven Hospital while a 22-year-old female victim arrived at Yale New Haven Hospital, both by private vehicle. The male victim’s wounds are non-life threatening, while the female victim is in stable but critical condition.

Police are still investigating the shootings, and at the time it is uncertain whether they are connected. A post on X quoted Chief Karl Jacobson as saying, ​“We will be putting more officers and detectives on the streets to ensure the city is safe.”

Mayor Elicker spoke with reporters Monday about the shootings at an unrelated press conference on Whalley Avenue, promising both short-term steps to prevent retaliation and long-term efforts to give young people productive ways to spend their time.
