A New Haven man has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison on federal narcotics and firearm charges.

Donell Allick Jr.,  also known as “D-Nice,” 25, faced sentencing Monday in federal court in New Haven, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut . The sentence handed down to him included 115 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

According to federal officials, evidence introduced at Allick’s trial showed that he conspired with others to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine in the New Haven area between April and October 2022.

In September and October 2022, Allick and an associate sold fentanyl during controlled purchases made by investigators, officials said.

Authorities in October 2022 searched a Hamden apartment reportedly used by Allick and seized three loaded handguns with extended magazines, about 73 grams of fentanyl, 34 grams of crack cocaine, items used to process and package narcotics for street sale and $15,000, officials said. A ballistics analysis of the guns showed that they had been used in six shootings, including two homicides, between September 2021 and September 2022.

A search of Allick’s car, which had been seen being used in suspected drug deals, also turned up an additional loaded handgun with a 30-round extended magazine, unspecified “quantities of fentanyl and crack cocaine” and $2,144, according to officials.

Allick was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, fentanyl and cocaine base, one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, fentanyl and one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine base on March 21, 2023.

The jury found Allick not guilty of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, a quantity of fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

After the trial but before the jury returned its verdict, officials said Allick pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of firearms by a felon.

His previous criminal history includes state convictions for first-degree escape, second-degree assault and carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit.

Allick has been detained since his arrest in November 2022. He is currently awaiting trial in a separate federal case in which nine reported members and associates of the Exit 8 street gang in New Haven were indicted on racketeering conspiracy charges.

Federal officials allege Allick and others shot and killed an individual on Sept. 16, 2022.
