NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A 25-year-old man is expected to survive being shot Wednesday in New Haven when people in two vehicles exchanged fire near a day care.

The shooting happened at about 3:15 a.m. in the area of Orchard Street by North Frontage Road, according to police. The man later walked into the St. Raphael campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is expected to survive.

Officers then found a vehicle with gunshot holes and blood inside near the intersection of Greenwood Street and Gilbert Avenue. Ballistic evidence was found on North Frontage Road and Orchard Street, near a day care.

No description of potential suspects have been released by police.

Earlier in the day, a 38-year-old man was injured in a shooting in the area of Washington and West streets.

Police are also investigating a non-fatal shooting midday Tuesday that left a juvenile wounded on Wayfarer Street.

Two others were also shot on Wayfarer Street on Monday. It was one of three separate shootings in the city that day.
