4 People Shot In 2 Days

(Updated) Four people were injured across three different shootings between Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

The first shooting took place at around 5:32 p.m. on Monday, according to the release. City police officers were dispatched to the area of Exchange Street and Poplar Street in Fair Haven for a ShotSpotter activation. Officers then located a crime scene around Grand Avenue and Blatchley Avenue. Shortly after that, a 20-year-old New Havener suffering from non life-threatening gunfire injuries arrived by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street.

The second shooting occurred at around 2:56 a.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to the area of Sherman Avenue and Whalley Avenue for another ShotSpotter activation, as well as multiple calls to the police reporting shots fired ​“and people screaming.”

“When officers arrived on scene, they located ballistic evidence and blood in the street,” the police social media post reads. While officers were on scene, two gunshot victims — a 26-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man — arrived at YNHH’s St. Raphael’s hospital campus with non life-threatening gunshot wounds to their feet.

The third shooting took place at around 5:59 p.m. Tuesday, when NHPD posted on X that officers were on scene with a shooting victim in the area of Edgewood Avenue and Hotchkiss Street.

Update: In a follow-up X post on Wednesday afternoon, the NHPD provided further details on that third shooting. At around 5:45 p.m., city police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Sherman and Edgewood, as well as several 911 calls about a shooting victim near Edgewood and Hotchkiss.

Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old New Havener suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital’s York Street campus, where he underwent emergency surgery and was eventually listed in stable condition.
