Burlington Woman Arrested, Extradited from California Over Murder of Carrboro Man
The Carrboro Police Department is charging a Burlington woman with first degree murder in the latest update from a fatal shooting in May. A release on Wednesday said the police department’s investigation led to 28-year-old Karla Maria Machuca of Burlington as a suspect in the death of Juan Maldanado Espinoza. Espinoza, who was a Carrboro resident, was 41 years old.

UNC Football: Two Tar Heels named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American team
Two of Carolina’s most important offensive players for the 2024 season were named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American team. Junior running back Omarion Hampton was named to the first team and junior tight end Bryson Nesbit was named to the second team. Hampton was the fifth-leading rusher in Division I last season with 1,504 rushing yards, along with 15 touchdowns. Nesbit was the seventh-leading tight end in receiving yards (585 yards, 5 touchdowns), and easily could have moved up the list if Drake Maye didn’t have two other excellent tight ends to target.

UNC System issues new DEI guidance in light of Board of Governors repealing 2019 policy
New guidance has been sent to North Carolina universities to help them navigate changes to diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
