Construction begins on newest downtown Raleigh development
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Kane Realty announced construction has begun on a new mixed-use development in the West End neighborhood of downtown Raleigh. Oldham & Worth is Kane Realty’s second mixed-use residential project in the West End neighborhood. Located at the corner of W. Cabarrus Street and S. West Street the project will feature five stories of upscale apartments, first-class amenities and 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. There will also be more than 250 apartment units.
PlayMakers SYC dazzles with The Prom
The Prom – this year’s musical production by The Summer Youth Conservatory (SYC) at PlayMakers Repertory Company, the resident theater company at UNC – is excellent. The show runs through Sunday, July 28. Tickets are $10 for youth and $20 for adults, and they can be purchased online or at the box office. The production is in one of the small theaters at the Gillings Center for Dramatic Art, as technical upgrades are made to the main PlayMakers’ stage. The intimacy of the small theater is an added thrill.
Flood rescue in Durham; flash flood warning for Durham and Orange counties
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A flash flood warning was issued Monday afternoon for areas in central North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service. The flash flood warning was issued until 6:15 p.m. for Southern Durham County and Southeastern Orange County after up to 2.5 inches of rain had fallen and 1.5 more inches of rain was possible, the weather service warned.
OMI breaks ground on new homeless shelter
After years of fundraising and preparation, a crowd gathered Friday and broke ground on Outreach Mission Inc.’s homeless shelter. The Samuel J. Wornom Community Shelter, slated to open in 2025 at the intersection of Third Street and Oakwood Avenue, will be able to house 76 client beds which include four family rooms. A full kitchen and laundry room will also be available. The facility is being built after six years of raising funds from various organizations, trusts, and individuals.
