UPDATE: Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with an incident Sunday that shut down Meche's Donuts in New Iberia.

The store was damaged but is expected to re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16.

The New Iberia Police Department (NIPD) says they've arrested 17-year-old Luke Bienvenu of Saint Martinville, and a 16-year-old male of Saint Martinville. They've been booked with Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault, and firing an air gun within the city limits.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of E. St. Peter Street. NIPD say they found the donut shop's windows shattered, and that there were workers inside when it happened.

NIPD say the damage was caused by a BB gun. They also say that this is an ongoing investigation; more arrests are possible.

At this point in the investigation, NIPD believe these were "random acts of vandalism committed by these individuals and the business was not a specific target."

We reported earlier today that Meche's Donuts in New Iberia is closed today after gunfire shattered the shop's windows this weekend.

"We regret to inform you that our restaurant will be temporarily closed due to damage to our building. The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority, and we are working diligently to address the issue," a post on the shop's Facebook page states. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and support during this time. We will be back open Tuesday July 16."

A little later, the shop posted that suspects were in custody, identified as "kids going around shooting windows with pellet gun."

The incident happened early Sunday, posts state.

"We are grateful that all employees who were working at that time are safe and no one was injured. Police are actively investigating this incident and we ask that if you have any information, you please bring that forward," a post states.

We've reached out to New Iberia Police and we'll update this story with any new information they provide.
