Devils PTO Options: Cal Clutterbuck

Tom Fitzgerald and the New Jersey Devils are almost ready to rock for the 2024-25 NHL season. Training camps are less than a month away, which means we are entering into PTO season.

After the moves that the Devils made this off-season, which improved their size and strength and overall depth. Fitzgerald may look at the free agency pool remaining and see who he can bring in on a PTO.

There are still a few solid players looking for a new home and with the Devils being a favourite to win the Metro Division, New Jersey may be a place that they want to call home.

Cal Clutterbuck

Again, Fitzgerald and his staff had prioritized size and strength as a target this off-season. They signed Brenden Dillion, Brett Pesce and Stefan Noesen. They also acquired Paul Cotter, all of who are big bodies who won't back down from a rough game.

Adding Cal Clutterbuck as the 12/13 forward to rotate into a game every few nights would be a very smart option for the Devils. The soon-to-be 37-year-old, still has what it takes to play on a fourth line and mix it up. Last season, he had 273 hits, which was fifth in the NHL

Devils fans would know what Clutterbuck could bring to the team from watching him with the New York Islanders for the past 11 years. He was a part of their identity line and amassed 2,572 hits.

Their role was to forecheck hard, hit anything that moved, and don't get scored on. Clutterbuck on a line with Cotter and Curtis Lazar or Nathan Bastian could be the Devils' identity line
