University of Dayton to offer social entrepreneurship program
University of Dayton is adding a new certificate to its roster this fall: a program focused on both entrepreneurship and social impact. Students in the Herr Venture for Change Program will earn a nine credit hour certificate in social entrepreneurship. Along with course work, they’ll create a venture intended to make social change in the Dayton community.

Dayton Art Institute opens newly renovated outdoor garden space
The Dayton Art Institute has completed renovations on its outdoor garden space in front of the museum known as the Velsey Garden. Named after the artist Seth M. Velsey, a former educator at the DAI School, whose three stone statues are featured prominently in the space, the Velsey Garden is located to the left of the museum’s main entrance.

There are several local cities and townships hosting parades and festivals this week in honor of Independence Day. Here are some of those events:. Oxford Parks & Recreation Freedom Festival: Salute to Freedom Parade at 6:30 p.m. July 2 starting on the corner of College Avenue and High Street in Oxford and continuing down High Street to Poplar Street. Enjoy Oxford hosts a concert at Uptown Park featuring the Bluewater Kings Bang at 7 p.m. On July 3, events at Oxford Community Park start at 5 p.m. with booths, music, food, gladiator jousts, inflatables, games, face painting and more. Update On Area Northwest Ohio Rite Aid Closures
Rite Aids local to our area have stated they, along with all other Rite Aid stores in Ohio and Michigan will be closing. This information has not yet been confirmed directly from Rite Aid corporate, however, Rite Aid stores in both Fulton, Lucas, and Defiance Counties have informed The Village Reporter that they will indeed be closing. Furthermore, stores in Hillsdale County and Jackson County in Michigan have confirmed this as well.
