Charity bike ride fighting MS camps in Faribault overnight
Rice County Fairgrounds looked like Rice County campgrounds Tuesday evening, when hundreds of cyclists arrived to camp through the night in Faribault. The riders are in the middle of a five-day bike ride called BikeMS: Ride Across Minnesota, which hopes to help end multiple sclerosis (MS) by fundraising for the National MS Society for research and to support those living through an MS diagnosis. Rio Severson named new Rocket girls basketball head coach
Rio Severson was named as the new Randolph girls basketball head coach in the wake of former head coach Dennis Trom’s retirement from the position late this spring. Severson spent the last few seasons as an assistant under Trom. It was her first high school coaching job after graduating college, though she had coached at the youth and AAU levels prior to that. She is a special education teacher for Randolph Schools, is from Grand Meadow and attended both Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, and the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. Severson played basketball at Dordt, a NAIA school, in 2016-2017 before transferring to Northwestern where she played basketball the following three seasons.

Faribault VFW's season ends after playoff losses to Northfield and Albert Lea
The Faribault VFW baseball team’s season came to a close last weekend in the playoffs as they traveled to Northfield and played three games, winning one. Their first game was against Albert Lea, which they won 5-2 on Saturday. They then faced off against an undefeated Northfield team, losing 13-3. They had another chance to face off against Northfield if they won against Albert Lea in a rematch, but they lost 11-2, ending their season. ...

Brad Moening, the longtime cross-country coach for Highland Park High School, will be inducted into the Minnesota Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame during a coaches clinic on August 5 at the Grand Event Center in Northfield. Moening has coached boys’ and girls’ cross-country at Highland for 22 years. During that time, the Scots have won nine Saint Paul City Conference titles and made four team appearances at state, taking third in both 2019 and 2021. The Highland girls have won 15 conference titles, including the last 12 in a row, and have made four trips to state, including finishing first in 2021 and 2022, and second in 2023. Moening also has won numerous awards as coach of Highland’s Nordic ski teams. He plans to continue coaching cross-country this fall, but is turning over the reins of the school’s Nordic ski program to former Highland student Will Robertson.
Spiders season comes to an end with gut-wrenching loss to Morries
Facing elimination in the 13/60 playoff bracket, the Morristown Morries and Cleveland Spiders traveled to Faribault’s Bell Field for the play-in round. After trailing by three runs for much of the night, Cleveland put-together a four-run rally in the seventh to take a lead, but the Morries bunkered down and retook the lead in bottom of the seventh, holding on to win 6-5. With the victory, Morristown will advance to face top seeded Eagle Lake Saturday, July 20, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m....
