A new restaurant called Jamleans is set to offer Jamaican and Creole food in a comfortable, contemporary setting at 7834 Earhart Blvd. in Marlyville-Fontainebleau . Owner Daryl Evans recently told What Now New Orleans that he’s specifically looking to offer Jamaican food in a format that is a step up from the traditional Jamaican cook shop. He emphasized that the restaurant will offer a clean modern environment and top-notch service.

“The traditional Jamaican restaurants are usually like mom-and-pop type restaurants,” he said. “We’re going for more upscale than mom-and-pop, but still comfortable for everyone. We want to serve people who like Jamaican food, but who are not comfortable going to certain areas and establishments.”

Evans said the menu at Jamleans will offer traditional Jamaican dishes like jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry goat, and oxtails. The other half of the menu will offer traditional New Orleans foods like gumbo, red beans, and jambalaya. There also be a full bar with a focus on Caribbean style cocktails like rum punch. Evans said he hopes to open the restaurant by the end of July.
