Fatal crash closes I-610/I-10 merge near Metairie

New Orleans Police say one person was killed in a vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on I-610 at the I-10 merge near Metairie.

"At about 1:43 p.m., NOPD Third District officers responded to a call of a vehicle crash at the location," said NOPD. "Upon arrival, officers discovered four vehicles believed to have been involved in a crash at the location."

Police say the driver of a gold Lincoln sedan traveling west in the left lane of I-10 near the I-610 merge lost control for reasons yet to be determined, left the roadway, and collided with a white Honda sedan.

"The Lincoln then traveled through the median and entered the left merge lane of I-610 West, striking a red Ford pickup truck," said police. "The two vehicles came to rest at the merger of the two interstates."

New Orleans EMS took the driver of the Lincoln to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford had minor injuries, and the driver of the Honda went to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

NOPD says one other vehicle sustained minor damage.
