NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — The New Orleans Police Department officer, who is suspected to have been involved with New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, is set to retire.

Sources told WGNO that Senior Officer Jeffery Vappie has submitted his paperwork to retire.

A photo circulating back in April showed Cantrell and Vappie, who was reportedly on the clock at the time, dining together.

Vappie has also been the center of recent investigations by the New Orleans Office of Inspector General due to an alleged breach of confidentiality and security.

The OIG reported that on March 27, it received a letter from New Orleans City Council President J.P. Morrell requesting an investigation into the handling of the Public Integrity Bureau’s investigation into Vappie’s actions.

The initial investigation surrounded Cantrell’s use of the city-owned Upper Pontalba Apartment in the Frech Quarter. During her time in the unit, it was alleged that Vappie, who was a member of her Executive Protection Detail, would regularly accompany her to the apartment both on and off duty.

Vappie joined the NOPD in 1997 and has served for 27 years. His last day is expected to be Saturday, June 29.
