Former St. Tammany Parish corporal sentenced on 189 sex crime-related charges

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — It was announced Thursday, June 27 that a former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Corporal pleaded guilty to charges including child pornography.

Christopher Cassidy plea on June 24, to 78 counts of pornography involving a juvenile and 111 counts of sexual abuse of animals, stemming from a July 2022 incident.

On Feb. 24, 2022, Cassidy was arrested following an investigation and tip submitted to the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children, reporting the upload of child pornography by a particular email address.

Further investigation revealed the email belonged to Cassidy.

The St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s Office states that the email was used to receive and send multiple pornographic images of prepubescent children. The office added that a photo of a nude man, identified as Cassidy, was also sent from the email address.

Additionally, documents state several internet accounts containing images of humans engaging in sexual activity with animals were uncovered.

A warrant was issued for Cassidy’s arrest, and he was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Deputies add that during transport, a cell phone was taken from Cassidy that reportedly contained images of prepubescent females being assaulted by men.

Cassidy has been sentenced to 15 years of prison without the benefit of parole. He will also be required to register as a sexual offender for the next 25 years.
