The New Orleans Pelicans didn't strike on draft night, but they also didn't wait long to make the type of aggressive move they've been teasing all offseason.

The Pelicans are acquiring point guard Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks, according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski .

The deal is also sending a pair of Pelicans players back to Atlanta. Here are the full details:
    - Pelicans get: G Dejounte Murray
    - Hawks get: G Dyson Daniels; F/C Larry Nance Jr.; F EJ Lidell; 2025 1st round pick (via Lakers); 2027 1st round pick (least favorable of Pelicans/Bucks)

The move means the Pelicans have exhausted the final draft asset acquired in the Anthony Davis trade. The Pelicans had the option to take the Lakers pick this season but deferred it to next year. L.A. picked Tennessee's Dalton Knecht at No. 17.

The trade is certainly a big move for the Pelicans and one that fills a clear need with an undisputed lead guard. The Pelicans had previously turned to CJ McCollum often in that role, and at times even Zion Williamson, in that role.

Murray, 27, has been known as an elite perimeter defender throughout his career, playing his first four seasons with the Spurs. He's upped his scoring each of the past three seasons, finishing last season with a career-high 22.5 points to go with 6.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Another positive element is Murray's contract that will have him under team control through 2026-'27 with a player option in Year 4. The 4-year, $114 million extension is set to begin next season.

The Pelicans have at least one more decision to make this offseason in terms of the future of Brandon Ingram, who is set to enter the final year of his contract and is eligible to sign a 4-year, $208 million extension. To this point there hasn't been any apparent movement toward that deal, though Pelicans EVP David Griffin said after the first night of the draft that both parties want Ingram to stay in New Orleans if possible.

New Orleans picked Baylor center Yves Missi at No. 21, then traded for Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves at No. 47. The team will be hoping to continue on it's upward trajectory after a 49-win season that was marred, again, by injuries to star players and a first-round playoff exit.
