NFL Analyst Makes Bold Prediction For Saints’ Rookie QB

The New Orleans Saints made a huge move during the 2023 NFL offseason to address their quarterback needs. They signed veteran Derek Carr following his release from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Carr was expected to help elevate the New Orleans Saints, making them a playoff team once again. In Year 1, they fell short of those expectations. The team went 9-8 but didn’t earn a playoff spot.

Heading into 2024, some analysts believe that Carr’s hold on the starting job isn’t as strong. He was fine in his first year as a starter but wasn’t the difference maker that the team had hoped he would be.

Not looking like a contender in 2024, the quarterback situation will be one to keep an eye on in New Orleans. In the opinion of Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team, they are one team whose backup could be a future starter.

Mosher put rookie Spencer Rattler at No. 7 on the list. Rattler will be battling it out with Jake Haener, a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, for the backup job behind Carr. Mosher believes that is a job Rattler will win, as he could be in line to start games for the New Orleans Saints in 2024.

“Spencer Rattler fell to the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft but landed in a pretty good spot. Carr is entrenched as the starter in New Orleans, but his job might not be as safe as it was a year ago. If the Saints get off to a slow start and it becomes apparent they can’t contend for the NFC South, look for them to consider starting Rattler,” wrote Mosher.

A rookie fifth-round pick seeing action would mean something has gone wrong for the New Orleans Saints. Either Derek Carr suffered an injury or he played so poorly that the postseason was out of reach and they opted to make a change.

Coming out of high school, there was a lot of hype around Rattler. He was considered a potential top pick in the future, but that didn’t end up being in the cards.

After playing collegiately at Oklahoma and South Carolina, he has big game experience. There is a lot of positive takeaways from his game, such as his huge arm creativity outside of the pocket.

If he can clean up his accuracy to make up for his lack of athleticism and size, he could carve out a role in the NFL. That first opportunity could very well come with the New Orleans Saints, as Mosher believes Rattler will see action during his rookie season.
