New Orleans Police say a nine-hour standoff between a suspected violent criminal and their SWAT team ended after officers had to use "tactical measures" Tuesday afternoon.

Police arrested 40-year-old Philip Jenkins around 2 p.m.

Police said Jenkins is wanted for attempted murder, aggravated assault, and sex crimes.

The standoff in the 2800 block of S. Johnson St. began shortly after 5 a.m. when NOPD and U.S. Marshals went to arrest Jenkins.

"The wanted suspect barricaded himself inside the house so Special Weapons and Tactics officers responded to the scene," police said.

Negotiations went on for hours, but police say their "efforts failed to persuade the wanted suspect to surrender and tactical measures were deployed."

    No injuries were reported.
