Three Saints players on the roster bubble entering 2024 training camp

Position battles will ramp up in the NFL over the next couple of months. Training camp began for a handful of teams on Tuesday, and the preseason will play a major role. For the New Orleans Saints, there are three players that standout as "roster bubble" candidates entering training camp.

Let's take a look at those guys.

3 Saints players on the roster bubble before 2024 training camp

    Ugo Amadi

The depth in the secondary improved for New Orleans this offseason. Marshon Lattimore returned from injury at cornerback, and they drafted Kool-Aid McKinstry in round two.

Amadi won't start safety, and he's arguably the third option at bnickelback behind Alontae Taylor and Will Harris, who they added in free agency. Amadi will most likely need to beat out Harris in order to secure an active roster spot to begin the season. He's a practice squad option as a veteran with knowledge of the playbook for the Saints.

    Equanimeous St. Brown

St. Brown was a free-agent addition during this offseason. He's a big-body target, who is fighting for a roster spot alongside veteran Cedrick Wilson Jr.

A.T. Perry has locked in his spot after some bright spots in 2023, and I'd expect rookie Bub Means to hold down a role as a rookie selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

For St. Brown, he's bounced around in recent years, and only one of him and Wilson may make the opening week roster for the Saints. They have a similar skillset, and New Orleans normally does not keep more than 5-6 wideouts to start the season.

    D'Marco Jackson

Jackson got some camp buzz in 2023, but it never came to fruition for him last season.

Now, the Saints added Willie Gay Jr. as a third LB option alongside Demario Davis and Pete Werner. Jackson has the upper hand on Nephi Sewell due to Sewell's injury from last year, but Sewell has also proven more on the field over the past two seasons. He was playing good ball for the Saints last year before this injury.

Plus, New Orleans added Jaylan Ford during this year's draft. The Texas product is a good mover who projects well for the New Orleans system on defense. He was a value selection, and he should make the team.

I'd only expect the Saints to keep five linebackers, at most, on the active roster to start the season, so we will see if Jackson makes the cut.
