We’re down to 53 days until the New Orleans Saints start their 2024 regular season, which makes Chris Olave’s 53-yard touchdown reception against the Los Angeles Rams our Saints Play of the Day. Olave came through in a big spot for the Saints in 2022, making one of the best plays of his rookie season with Andy Dalton at quarterback.

This isn’t the only 53-yard touchdown the Saints have punched in throughout their team history — they’ve done so five times, if you’re keeping score — but it’s arguably the most impactful. The Rams had taken a 14-10 lead before halftime, but the Saints rallied back. Jarvis Landry capped one scoring drive with a touchdown catch. Then Olave extended the lead on this diving break for the end zone.

And this remains the longest play from scrimmage of Olave’s career. He’s done it all for the Saints through back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons to start his pro career, and the hope is for Klint Kubiak’s new offense to further emphasize his abilities. He’s already knocking on the door of being a top-15 wide receiver in this league. More big plays like this one will only strengthen his reputation.
