What do you need to know about the New Orleans Saints heading into the 2024 NFL Training Camp cycle? Let’s preview the team! (Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports)
New Orleans Saints 2024 NFL Training Camp Preview
The NFC South feels like a total crapshoot. We’re going to talk about a team that may as well be the NBA’s version of the Chicago Bulls. Totally stuck in the middle with nowhere to go. Here is your New Orleans Saints 2024 NFL Training Camp Preview!
Three Position Battles To Watch:
Tight End: Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill, Dallin Holker
Juwan Johnson would probably be the heavy favorite here but he suffered a brutal injury . Taysom Hill is also going to have some sort of role. We kinda know what Moreau is at this point. Can the rookie Holker from Colorado State make his way in the rotation?
Wide Receiver: AT Perry, Rashid Shaheed, Bub Means, Cedrick Wilson, EQ St. Brown
This is for the starting job opposite of Chris Olave. I would guess that will go to Shaheed, who really emerged as a deep threat last year. AT Perry should get an increased role as well. Cedrick Wilson was brought in for veteran competition. Means is a rookie out of Pitt who could make some noise. We’ll see if this offense can even sustain another fantasy relevant target beyond Olave.
Backup QB: Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener
Derek Carr is locked in as the starter. This is about who wins the backup job. Haener was picked in the 4th round last year. Rattler was picked in the 5th round this year. The preseason will be revealing here.
Rookie To Watch: Taliese Fuaga
The Saints deserve credit for one thing. Their offensive line was crumbling at the tackle spot. It honestly derailed their entire season in 2023. The problem appears to be solved. Trevor Penning still might suck but Taliese Fuaga is a total stud coming out of Oregon State. He’s going to help them and they needed it with Ryan Ramczyk no longer playing.
Ready to Breakout: Bryan Bresee
It was a decent showing for the former Clemson product as a rookie. 4.5 from the interior is encouraging. Now it’s time for Bresee to be a game wrecker. If he can do that, the Saints have a real shot to win this division. They’re going to need him to turn into an aircraft carrier. That part remains to be seen but fans should feel encouraged that path can happen.
I wrote a bit of a write-up on why fantasy owners should start fading Alvin Kamara from this point forward. When Kamara falls off a cliff, Miller will be first in line to take those looks. It may be a good time to invest in Miller. Although, I’m not actually convinced he’s that good so we’ll see.
