70-year-old woman’s arm severed in chainsaw attack. Two officers hurt in incident.

A 70-year-old woman is in critical condition after being attacked with a chainsaw Monday afternoon.

The Nola.com. website reports that the attack occurred shortly before 2 p.m. in Gentilly Terrace in New Orleans. Two New Orleans police officers were also injured during the incident.

The woman, along with both officers, was taken to a hospital. According to reports, the woman’s arm was severed in the attack.

John Pittman, 34, was apprehended at the scene and later booked into the New Orleans jail on charges of aggravated battery by cutting and resisting arrest.

Pittman’s victim, who neighbors identified as his mother, fled to a relative’s house before seeking medical attention. Neighbors said Pittman suffered from mental health issues and had not been taking his medication.
