Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Nathan Peterman was released by the New Orleans Saints on Friday to make room for wide receiver Samson Nakua.

Samson Nakua is the older brother of Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua.

Puka Nacua was a breakout star as a rookie last season for the Rams, catching 105 passes for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns.

Peterman, who started his college career at Tennessee before transferring to Pittsburgh, signed with the Saints earlier this offseason after spending the previous two seasons with the Chicago Bears.

The former Vol was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent parts two seasons with the Bills before signing with the Oakland Raiders in 2018. Peterman stuck around with the Raiders through the 2021 season.

Peterman has played in 15 career games in the NFL. He's 1-4 as a starter.

It wouldn't be a surprise if the Saints add Peterman back to their roster (or their practice squad) before the start of the 2024 season. It's not unusual to see some roster gymnastics take place this time of year.
