The New Orleans Saints added a unique player to their roster on Friday. They signed a relative of one of the best stories in all of football from 2023.

Saints sign WR Samson Nacua, brother of Puka

Samson is the older brother of Puka. The latter had one of the greatest rookie receiving seasons in NFL history last season. Samson's older brothers, Isaiah and Kai, also played football for BYU. It clearly runs in the family.

With they move, New Orleans cut veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman. Only three QBs remain on the roster: Derek Carr, Jake Haener, and Spencer Rattler.

Nacua, 6-3 206, was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft and competed in their training camp. In 2024, he played for the UFL's Michigan Panthers and recorded 11 receptions for 125 yards. He appeared in two games for the USFL's Pittsburgh Maulers in 2023.

Wide receivers Cedrick Wilson Jr, Equanimeous St. Brown, Bub Means are all currently nursing injuries. None of them practiced on Friday. Chris Olave has also dealt with a couple of ailments during this offseason.

Accordingly, adding Nacua makes plenty of sense. Dennis Allen noted his blocking as a trait that stood out to him in Nacua's game. The Saints have always valued blocking ability in their depth receivers.
