Another development in the scary situation for New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener is coming to the surface.

A week after the former Fresno State star announced that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of skin cancer, Haener is expected to undergo a procedure in the coming days to treat the ailment.

Haener has been sporting a bandage on the right side of his face over the last week since he found out about the diagnosis. A consultation with doctors on August 1 revealed that the procedure would be done in the coming days, said Saints coach Dennis Allen.

“I think there’s going to be a procedure that is going to take place Monday,” Allen said Friday, via NOLA.com . “My anticipation as we sit here today is that he’ll probably miss practice on Monday, we have an off day on Tuesday, and I expect him to be back full go on Wednesday.”

Fortunately, it appears that Haener should be able to make a swift recovery and could be back with the team in the coming days, well before preseason gets underway.

Haener will battle for the backup spot in New Orleans this year with rookie Spencer Rattler , so these reps in August will go a long way in potentially securing him a spot on the 53-man roster, or being relegated to the practice squad.
