NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — New Providence police responded to an attempted vehicle break-in early Wednesday morning on July 24, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a missing juvenile.

At about 1:32 a.m. on July 24, officers were called to a residence on Oxbow Drive. The homeowner’s security system alerted them to three individuals trying to enter their car. When police arrived, they found the vehicle door slightly open but reported no missing items at that time.

While investigating, officers noticed a car driving slowly in the area. After observing a motor vehicle violation, they stopped the car, which turned out to be an Uber. The vehicle had just picked up three passengers.

During the stop, officers arrested Talatzhue Bennett, 23, of East Orange, for obstructing justice after he gave false information. One of the passengers was identified as a missing juvenile from East Orange. Bennett was released and is scheduled to appear in New Providence Municipal Court. The missing juvenile was safely returned to their guardian.

The New Providence Detective Bureau is still looking into the attempted break-ins. Residents with information or surveillance footage from Oxbow Drive, Runnymede Parkway, Charnwood Road, Ridge Drive, or nearby areas are asked to contact Detective Christian Cely at 908-665-1120.
