DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man was booked into Polk County Jail Monday morning after police say he shot and injured a person Sunday night. Des Moines police said a shooting happened Sunday night on the Southwest Ninth Street River Bridge. One person was injured, and the suspected shooter was detained, police say.

Pella City Council to Hold Public Hearings for Developments, Extensive Policy and Planning Session Tonight
The Pella City Council will hold a pair of public hearings for developments at their meeting this evening. The agenda includes ordinances and resolutions for a proposed EPCON Residential Urban Renewal Plan and for the Prairie Ridge West Planned Unit Development. Other actions include approval of a contract for West 9th Street Improvements, setting a public hearing date for a proposed development agreement with Courtyards Land Holding, LLC, and an access easement agreement with Kwik Trip. Policy and planning will include several topics for discussion, including a pickleball partnership request with Central College, a plan to move forward with either renovated or new soccer fields, an update about the South Central Regional Airport Agency, the demolition of the old Second Christian Reformed Church building, and a City Council norms procedure.

Tickets are on sale for the 2024 National Balloon Classic, running July 26th-August 3rd. Discounted tickets are available online now and will raise in price once the event begins, and can be printed off or saved digitally through a mobile device that will be scanned at the gate. Iowa man convicted in murder of woman who had protective order against him
An Iowa man accused of killing an Eldora woman despite a protective order prohibiting him from having contact with her has been convicted of first-degree murder in her death. A Hardin County jury found Nathan Bahr, 30, guilty July 11 of first-degree murder. Bahr faces a mandatory term of life in prison without parole when he is sentenced Sept. 6.

No charges in fatal Cedar Rapids police shooting, Iowa Attorney General decides
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — No charges will be filed in the fatal police shooting of 40-year-old David Vanderhamm, the Iowa Attorney General's Office has decided. According to a report from Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, Vanderhamm's mother called 911 and asked officers to take her son to the hospital for a mental health evaluation shortly before 2:30 p.m. on April 6, telling officers that her son was "violent and paranoid and had access to a gun." Two officers arrived and escorted Vanderhamm to the hospital, where he refused treatment and left the facility.
