Wendell Pierce and Meghan Markle 's friendship has stood the test of time, outlasting the project in which they both once co-starred.
While speaking to reporters at the 204 Tony Awards in New York City on Sunday, June 16, the Suits alum teased the ins and outs of his ongoing friendship with the Duchess of Sussex and offered a fresh perspective on her relationship with Prince Harry .
Pierce told People he has reunited with Meghan "a few times" since she left the series after Season 7. "I've gotten to see her just a few times since, and we've been able to reminisce and so it's real, we have fond memories of working together,” he shared.
The Tony Award winner then recalled meeting up with the royal couple last year, whom he believes are "very much in love" despite what naysayers believe .

“When [Meghan] came into town, she got an award last year, had a chance to say hello and wish she and Prince Harry well and wish the children well,” he said. “They look very much in love and were very happy, so that's the most important thing."
Pierce, 60, also said that working with her on the legal drama that aired from 2011 through 2019 on the USA Network and in which Meghan played paralegal Rachel Zane–the daughter of Pierce’s Robert Zane–was “a blast.”
Not too long ago, The Wire alum remembered a conversation he had with Meghan, now 42, before her engagement to Harry, now 39, and wrapping up Suits . During an April 2024 interview with E! News , Pierce said he advised Meghan her life was about to see a “whirlwind” of change and that she would “be in this bubble.”
"'I just want you to remember that no matter what happens, you always have friends,’" he recalled telling the actress.
Years later, Pierce proved he meant what he said as he defended the duchess from critics who slammed her for skipping a Suits reunion at the 2024 Golden Globes . Pierce pointed out that Meghan has Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet , to focus on.
