NYC home to the world’s top tourist attraction for 2024 — beating out the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum

The world is in a New York state of mind.

The Empire State Building was ranked the top tourist attraction on the planet in TripAdvisor’s newly-released 2024 Traveler’s Choice Awards, with the 102-floor skyscraper towering over the likes of the Eiffel Tower and Rome’s Colosseum.

A visit to Midtown Manhattan’s most iconic tall building — completed in 1931 — was selected as best of the bunch as part of the user generated content site’s annual nods, earning its way onto the list by snagging over 100,000 reviews with an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

The building where Buddy the Elf busted a move in a mailroom met the criteria for having “above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period.”

“Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone,” according to TripAdvisor.

Behind the Empire State Building and Eiffel Tower, which took the number two spot, is the Anne Frank House in The Netherlands, Basílica de la Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, and the Cayman Crystal Caves of the Cayman Islands.

The Louvre in Paris was seventh overall.

Elsewhere in Manhattan, Central Park came in at 18.

In another category for the best food and drink experiences worldwide, Secret Food Tours Greenwich Village offering came in at 19th .

Maid of The Mist in Niagara Falls was named second worldwide in the best sailing and day cruises category.
