Millions will be celebrating Fourth of July on Thursday, but Mayor Eric Adams, Gov. and the NYPD are urging everyone to plan ahead and take safety precautions when necessary. Adams says that thousands of police will be out on the streets to ensure the safety of New Yorkers and visitors, and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday the state will see an increase in police patrols during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. With fireworks set to take the city's skies, Adams urges that New Yorkers follow the directions of the products they're using and to keep those products as far away from children as possible. The governor says patrols are set up to crack down on drunk and drugged driving as well as traffic violations. During 2023's Fourth of July holiday, more than 35,000 tickets were issued to drivers across the state. The governor's safety campaign will go into effect tonight at 6 p.m. Some Brooklyn residents tell News 12 that to be safe, they'll be watching the fireworks from a distance and monitoring their barbecue grills safely. Any lane closures or road construction projects will also be halted for the next four days.
